General Requirements: The Director of Healthcare Engagement is responsible for coordination of referral systems, physician engagement, and participant recruitment for the YMCA’s Community Health programs. Primary duties are, but not limited to, managing interest lists, generating referral systems, establishing physician feedback loops, qualifying participants, and managing data for YMCA Community Health including, but not limited to, the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, Moving for Better Balance, Enhance Fitness, Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program, Healthy Weight and Your Child, and the YMCA’s Weight Loss Program.

Qualifications: The position requires a clear understanding and empathy for the health challenges faced by the community; a commitment to equity as well as the well-being of children and families; a firm grasp of community capacity building; and knowledge/understanding of determinants of health. To perform satisfactorily the staff person should bring the following skills and/or experience to this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, Public Health degree preferred
  • A strong knowledge of YMCA management policy and procedures
  • Superior public relation skills including both verbal and written communications
  • Experience and proficiency with Listen First or motivational interviewing, required
  • A strong experience in fiscal budgeting, management, and control
  • The ability to represent the YMCA in a mature and professional manner
  • A commitment to YMCA values, philosophies, and ideals
  • Demonstrated relationship building with strengths in community outreach and physician engagement
  • Properly interpret and make decisions in accordance with laws, regulations, and policies of YMCA management policy and procedures
  • The ability to develop quality relationships and coordinate with staff and volunteers
  • Flexibility to work events during day, night, and weekend hours
  • A commitment to YMCA fundraising

Principal Activities

  • Coordinate and oversee current community health and wellness events including, but not limited to, Healthy Seniors Day; Healthy Men’s Day, and Healthy Women’s Day, and other screening/awareness events
  • Manage interest lists for YMCA Community Health programs
  • Create and manage referral networks including, but not limited to, hospitals, primary care offices, physical therapists, and other community-based organizations
  • Generate progress reports for program participants and referring entities
  • Qualify participants into Community Health programs through intake, medical clearance, and enrollment procedures
  • Ensure data entry is completed within 24 hours of each class session
  • Organize and interpret data from YMCA Community Health programs and submit reports to SC Alliance of YMCAs and YMCA of the USA, as requested
  • Support quality relationships with key community leaders and businesses
  • Interpret and communicate the YMCA mission, values, and ideals
  • Maintain fiscal goals and objectives of the association
  • Support YMCA policies and procedures
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises assigned staff and volunteers

  • Annual Campaign 
  • YMCA events, including Flowertown Festival
