General Function:

Under the general direction of the Aquatics Director and the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the Competitive Swimming Program following the YMCA philosophy, USA Swimming policies, Aquatic Guidelines, the YMCA Competitive Sports Guidelines. The Assistant Coach will provide direct leadership, instruction and motivation for swim team participants and is expected to attend swim meets and team functions throughout the year and is also responsible for creating and maintaining a clean and safe environment for the swim team participants.

 

 

Minimum Requirements:

The Assistant Swim Team Coach requires a broad background in aquatics and competitive swimming. He or She must have communication skills and organizational ability. The incumbent is responsible for assisting with the swimming program by performing coaching duties as directed by the Head Coach and acting as the Head Coach in their absence. Provide direct leadership to the team and attend all practices, meets and functions throughout the team session.  The employee is required to take all Redwoods & Praesidium courses online prior to actively working in their role.

 

 

Qualifications:

  1. Current certification in lifeguarding, first aid and safety, and CPR
  2. Safety Training For Swim Coaches-  You can register for the Safety Training for Swim Coaches online at americanredcross.org
  3. YMCA Competitive Swimming & Diving- You will need to create an account on yexchange.orgonce you create an account, you will need to complete the YMCA competitive swimming& diving course. There are two parts to this course, the online portion and then completion of the workbook.
  4. USA Level 1 certification within 6 months
  5. USA swimming Safesport, Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest certification.
  6. Continue education with local Summer League, USA Swimming and ASCA.

 

 

 

 

Principle Activities:

 

  1. Assist Head coach in creating thorough, age-appropriate workouts focusing on technique, endurance, stroke development, drills, etc.;
  2. Assist in the development of the Swim Team program in a manner consistent with YMCA standards.
  3. Coordinates, plans, organizes, promoting and implementation of the a Summer Swim League program CCAA League or East Cooper Swim League; including but not limited too; Plan and create meet line ups for dual, and championship meets, attending meets, communicate with parents, volunteers and head coach information in a timely manner.
  4. Assist with leading structured practices during the Fall, Winter and Summer teams.
  5. Leading and coordinating the Spring and Summer Stroke Clinics in April and July.
  6. Track daily attendance and file all paperwork.
  7. Working closely with the parent committee to secure sponsorship and plan fundraising events.
  8. Assist head coach with administrative matters relating to the team, swim meet arrangements and team performance as well as interaction with parents.
  9. Assist in coordinating and executing swim team competitions and meet registrations. Record times at swim meets.
  10. Attend swim team events such as meets, meetings, social events, etc. as assigned.
  11. Engage parents and cultivate relationships to create a collaborative swim team environment.
  12. Assist in swim team social event planning, as necessary.
  13. Responsible for helping in maintaining the safety of all participants during practices, swim meets and other team functions.
  14. Attend aquatics staff meetings/trainings.

 

 

Education:


  1. 1. High School graduate or equivalent.
  2. Previous experience preferred.
  3.    At least 18 years of age.

Safety Policy:

 

The Assistant Coach will be responsible for observing the following rules.

  1. No Alcohol or drugs will be used on the job at any time.
  2. Report all job accidents the same day the accident happens.
  3. Obtain authorization from your supervisor for all non-emergency treatments for accidents.
  4. Wear seat belts at all times in company vehicles
  5. Keep the area where you work clean and neat at all times.
  6. Do not remove or bypass any guards on any machinery at any time.
  7. Ask you supervisor when you need additional equipment or instructions to get the job done safely.
  8. Lift with your legs, not your back, and get assistance with loads over 50 pounds.
  9. Advise your supervisor of any hazardous conditions.
  10. Follow all other written and spoken safety rules.

The Assistant Coach represents the Summerville Family YMCA in a professional, courteous, friendly, and helpful manner to members and prospective Summerville YMCA members.

 

 

 

Introductory Period:

 

A 90-day review will be conducted after the employee start date.  The purpose of such an initial introductory period is to provide an opportunity for both Summerville YMCA and the new employee to assess their respective satisfaction and suitability to the job.
