Finding the Right Lesson
Choosing the right swim lesson starts with comfort and ability level. Use the swim lesson level chart to help determine the best fit. Our progressive YMCA curriculum allows swimmers to build skills at their own pace, and our staff is always available to help guide you into the appropriate class if you need assistance.
Private & Semi-Private Lessons
Personalized Instruction for Faster Progress
Private swim lessons offer one-on-one instruction between the participant and a certified swim instructor. These lessons are ideal for swimmers who benefit from individualized attention, want to refine specific skills, or prefer a customized learning pace.
Private Lessons:
- Six 30-minute, one-on-one sessions
Semi-Private Lessons:
- Six 30-minute sessions for two participants with one instructor
All private and semi-private lessons are face-to-face with an instructor. Registering for these lessons indicates agreement to in-person instruction. Lesson times are coordinated to fit both your schedule and the instructor’s availability.
Sensory Lessons
Supportive, Adaptive Instruction for Diverse Swimmers
Our Sensory Swim Lessons are designed for swimmers with diverse physical, cognitive, or sensory needs. Classes are held in small groups with a maximum of three participants per instructor and a total class size limited to 12, ensuring a calm, structured, and supportive environment. These lessons follow the YMCA Swim curriculum but are adapted into smaller, achievable goals to promote confidence, success, and enjoyment in the water.
Participants work on skills such as:
- Water safety and water acclimation
- Independent floating and breath control
- Basic paddling and stroke techniques (front and back)
- Object retrieval and movement in the water
- Social skills
- Coordination and overall strength
- Sensory processing
- Endurance and range of motion
