General Statement of Duties:
Under the direction of the CEO, the Marketing and Communications Director works across the Association and its various communications platforms to ensure that the Summerville Family YMCA’s communication and marketing needs are met in a strategically coordinated, prioritized, brand-consistent fashion. Through collaborative efforts, the Marketing Director will ensure all audiences hear and see the Summerville Family YMCA in a clear, compelling and cohesive single voice that is tied to the organization’s strategic plan and the national brand platform.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience is required or –
  • 5 or more years of professional experience in communications, marketing, public relations or other related field in the YMCA or another non-profit organization preferred.
  • Proven project management skills for special event planning.
  • Excellent writing, editing, proofreading and communication skills, with demonstrated ability in executive communications for internal and external audiences.
  • Advanced skill level with software and technologies (In Design, Illustrator, Photoshop, WordPress etc.) and the ability to learn new software and online content management skills.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop, implement, and lead strategic communication/marketing plans, consistent with the Y’s brand and voice, to build retention and inform target audiences, as well as promote local and national programs, campaigns, and events.
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, partners, and members to develop collateral content to ensure consistency with brand messaging and look to influence both broad audiences and key stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain Newsletter
  • Develops and/or oversees the development of all YMCA marketing/communications materials including brochures, program guides, direct mail, advertising, press releases, campaign literature and support material, annual reports, videos, website copy, photo stock, digital marketing collateral, etc. Works with the association management staff, branch management staff, and outside resources to produce high quality and cost-efficient communications.
  • Supports a team approach to coordinated, creative and strategic communications that advance organizational objectives that ultimately expand the Y’s visibility and mission to the community.
  • Build a culture of storytelling among employees and volunteers that effectively supports and communicates the Y’s impact in our community.
  • Video production
  • Attend events outside a traditional Monday through Friday workweek, and outside normal business hours
