GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under the guidance of the Aquatic Director, the Age-Group Swim Coach will aid in the teaching the fundamentals of swimming to achieve maximum improvement for age group participants of youth between the ages of 6-18 following the YMCA philosophy, Aquatic Guidelines, the YMCA Competitive Sports Guidelines, and promoting the YMCA Character Values.
KNOW HOW:
The Age-Group Swim Coach requires a swimming background including one or more of the following: either as a current or former competitive swimmer, current or former swim instructor, current or former swim coach.
Certification in the following must be obtained within 6 months of employment:
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving
- Red Cross Safety Training for Coaches
- Child Abuse prevention
- Completion of all required Redwoods & Praesidium on-line courses
JOB SEGMENTS:

- Assist in instructing age groups 5-18 in proper development of strokes, starts and turns.
- Assist in passing out hand-outs and notices to children and parents.
- Assists with all swimmers at all YMCA dual meets and Invitational’s.
- Responsible for the safety of all participants during practices, swim meets and other team functions.
- Attend all coaches’ meetings and trainings.
- Promotion of the YMCA mission to build healthy body, mind, and spirit to act as a role model for the YMCA Character Values of Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility.
EEFECT ON END RESULTS:
The Age-Group Swim Coach will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of the Fall and Summer Swim Team.

Safety Policy:
The swim team coach will be responsible for observing the following rules –
- No Alcohol or drugs will be used on the job at any time.
- Report all job accidents the same day the accident happens.
- Obtain authorization from your supervisor for all non-emergency treatments for accidents.
- Wear seat belts at all times in company vehicles
- Keep the area where you work clean and neat at all times.
- Do not remove or bypass any guards on any machinery at any time.
- Ask you supervisor when you need additional equipment or instructions to get the job done safely.
- Lift with your legs, not your back, and get assistance with loads over 50 pounds.
- Advise your supervisor of any hazardous conditions.
- Follow all other written and spoken safety rules.
Introductory Period:
A 90-day review will be conducted after the employee start date. The purpose of such an initial introductory period is to provide an opportunity for both Summerville YMCA and the new employee to assess their respective satisfaction and suitability to the job.
